Whitney Elizabeth Houston, born 9 August 1963 into the musically inclined family of Newark New Jersey is the daughter of the gospel singers Cissy Houston and John Russell Houston Jr. Also, she is the sister of singer Dionne Warwick. In Newark Whitney started singing in the church choir as a small child. When she was 15 years old, she joined her mom in backing vocals in Chaka's smash Im Every Woman from 1978.
